Hi Guys, I will take a train fr Salzburg to Leipzig, How can I find a train with beds? and how much extra be?

I have a pass to travel in Germany, but I know there is an extra charge and I would like to know how much that will be.
Hi Guys, I will take a train fr Salzburg to Leipzig, How can I find a train with beds? and how much extra be?
There is a night train from Munich to Leipzig, but none from Salzburg.
Salzburg dep 09.03 pm
Munich arr 10.30pm
dep 11.07pm
Leipzig arr 06.57am next morning

The train with the beds is called "CityNightLine "

The price depends on the type of bed/couchette, the extra charge is something between 19,50EUR ( for 1 bed in a couchette compartment of 6 ) and 49.50 EUR for a bed in a double economy compartment ( with another person ).
Then there are sometimes special offers, but I don't know, if this does make sense when you have a pass.
Best thing will be, when you are in Germany, go to the train station and make your reservation there or ask a licensed travel agent.
The web site of www.bahn.de is in english, but when you want to travel with nighttrains, this site is only in german.

have a nice day

Take care & thanks for the wishes
Certainly did. Arrived in Vienna on the 27th September last year by sleeper train from Cologne via Frankfurt am Main. Spent three nights at the Hotel Wimberger. Saw such sights as the Stefansdom, the State opera House, the memorial to Empress Maria-Theresa, the Imperial tombs at the Kapuzinerkirche. Also, you can not visit Vienna without partaking of a humongous Wiener Schnitzel at Figlmuller restaurant in Wollzeile (a short walk from Stubendor metro station).
Salzburg is beautiful!! You will have a nice trip for sure!
    me, or you?
I really had a nice one, hope you too

Family activities in/around Vienna during the upcoming Christmas / New Year Season 2006??

We will be hosting some friends (family with two youngish boys) and would like to plan about 7 days worth of activities. As we are new to Vienna ourselves, we would appreciate some suggestions. We are also a family with two young boys (all kids range from 6 to 12 years old). All speak English as our mother tongue (our family is struggling to learn, but let’s assume we don't get too far by then).

    Thanks for the help.
Family activities in/around Vienna during the upcoming Christmas / New Year Season 2006??
vienna in general is the most boring place for kids - i suggest you take them ice-skating, movies or museums. if they are to have fun, you should consider getting to a ski resort.

but the BEST thing would be to stay at a farmhouse-turned-guesthouse in the outskirts of vienna for the full time, the kids and you will have the times of your life. there's so much liveliness, friendliness (and yes, german doesn't quite remain a barrier outside wien) and enough activities to keep you occupied. you'll get everything from natural beauty to christmas culture to sports & adventure, all in one low-cost package.
Family activities in/around Vienna during the upcoming Christmas / New Year Season 2006??
Vienna has great Christmas markets before Christmas.
I was in Vienna last new years and in one shopping mall there was a huge lego christmas tree which my little brother (6 years old) liked looking at but thats not really an activity.
There are some good museums in Vienna.

Does South Tyrol belong to Austria and what language is spoken there?

    does austria grant dual citizenship?

    does austria grant dual citizenship?
Austria is a part of the EU and I know for a fact that the EU grants dual citizenships.
    does austria grant dual citizenship?
Not if you are Austrian and want to become e.g. American too.

According to Austrian Law (Section 26 to Section 38 Citizenship Law) the Austrian Citizenship will be lost when:

    a. you receive a foreign citizenship (e.g. American, Chinese, etc.),
    b. have served the military of a foreign country,
    c. lost it (sections 33 to 36) or
    d. denied it.

Of course there are also exceptions like e.g. Arnold Schwarzenegger who was allowed to keep the Austrian citizenship while obtaining the American. But I guess you have to be a very famous person and/or have very good contacts within the Austrian authorities to achieve that.

    As a rule, no.
Depends on your situation. If you were born outside of Austria but to parent(s) who held Austrian citizenship at the time of your birth, you may have dual citizenship automatically. Getting it will entail submitting a long-form birth certificate indicating your parents' citizenship at the time of your birth.

SOme years ago the local Manor house burnt down. They had some Peacocks there and the village decided to take care of them. There are about 20 of them now and they tap on my window to wake me up ( I sometimes feed them).

    does that help?
Yes, there is a village where my family has a holiday home .

The infrastructure in that area isn′t that great, so the people are still living mostly from Agriculture and Woods.
Some farmers and the local restaurants rent rooms for holidays.
In the woods, you can search for mushrooms, blueberries, cranberries,.
In winter, skiing is possible (in winter, there is pretty much snow in this area)

Do Australians have British accents or are their accents entirely different?
They have an entirely differnt accent as do New Zelanders, South Africans, Canadians and Americans, even though we were all colonies.
Do Australians have British accents or are their accents entirely different?
    entirely different
    entirely different
Australians have their own accent, which sounds something like a cross between an English and an American accent. It's rather hard to describe though - to really hear what an Australian accent sounds like, I would suggest watching an Australian soap opera like Neighbours or Home And Away
no they have a whiny tang to thier accents
    slightly different
Different. And not only is the accent different, but they have many of their own words and collequilisms as well, so a word may mean something in the US, be diferent in the UK, and be different again in Aussie.
They have an entirely different accent as well as a wonderful variety of slang words. They also abbreviate as many words as possible eg: Football = footie, Australian = Ozzie
G'day mate! Stone the flamin' crows! Only the ruling class Australians have British accents.

Us plebs got this horrible whining tone to our voice. It comes from our convict heritage.
The normal speaking voices of Cate Blanchett, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman and Heath Ledger are examples of General Australian accents,

Hugh Grant is the Brit accent take your pick and compare their styles.
Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians and Indians all speak English and were all part of the British Empire, but none of them sound like Brits. Each has its own distinctive accent.

can i get a prepaid sim card for my mobile phone in austria and europe?

can i get a prepaid sim card for my mobile phone in austria and europe?
Yes, a prepaid SIM is no problem. You can get them from different Austrian providers.

But you have to check the following points:

    1.)
In the USA (if you from there) the GSM frequencies are 850 and 1900MHz (as far as I know), but the European frequencies are 900 and 1800MHz. So your phone must be able to work in least one of the European frequencies (900MHz or 1800MHz) to get a connection.

    2.)
In Europe the provider sells phones (as part of an contract) cheaper than the normal price but these phones are locked to the Sim cards of the provider. So you are not able to use a Sim card of an other provider in one of these locked phones.
can i get a prepaid sim card for my mobile phone in austria and europe?
    i don't know
    i don't know
Yes, you can get a sim card from any reputable carrier in Europe. You pre pay it yourself and then "pay as you go"

I would get a sim from each country you are visiting. Its cheaper that way rather than using 1 sim for all the countries. So say you are in England, get one from Virgin Mobile, O2 or Orange. Then when you are in Spain, you can get one from Amena or Vodafone, etc.
    yes, you can

    Can Austrians speak German?

    Can Austrians speak German?
Yes, it′s the common language in Austria. There are different dialects of the German language, Austrians use some different expressions for some words - but it′s the same language!!
The Austrian dialect is very similar to the Bavarian dialect in Southern Germany

I should know best - I′m from Austria!!
    Can Austrians speak German?
Austrians do speak German. Just with a different accent.
Austrians do speak German. Just with a different accent.
yes they do but they also speak there own dialect which depends on where they abouts come from
Austrians speak German, it's their native language. However the dialect is distinctive, something like a Georgia boy talking to a New Yorker. The Germans always know when the speaker is an Austrian
A German would tell you that austrians speak Austrian and write German.

There are many spoken dialects in Austria and the proper German ("Hochdeutsch") is learned almost as a second language for many - since it has even a different grammar than the spoken dialects.

If you've been to a Viennese cafe at some point, you've probably seen the wooden devices they have for placing newspapers in front of you and read them without having to hold them. They stand alone, hold the newspaper for you, and you can comfortably read and change pages while you sip your coffee or eat dessert. I am dying to know how to find one of those for my house, but I have no idea what the name for them is. If you know a word (in English or German) that denotes those things, then I might just be able to conduct my search!
Calling people who've been to Vienna: help?
This may not be much help, I think it's called "der Zeitungshalter" in German. Here's a picture of it:

Yes, there is a village where my family has a holiday home .

The infrastructure in that area isn′t that great, so the people are still living mostly from Agriculture and Woods.
Some farmers and the local restaurants rent rooms for holidays.
In the woods, you can search for mushrooms, blueberries, cranberries,.
In winter, skiing is possible (in winter, there is pretty much snow in this area)

There are some good museums in Vienna.

    does austria grant dual citizenship?

    does austria grant dual citizenship?

True, 3-4 hours by car. It matters if you take the M1 highway, which requires a sticker (available at petrol stations) or don't and go on the local road through Mosonmagyarovar after Gyor.

It is too late for you, but I'll just tell th eothers:
If you are traveling to Vienna, take a flight to Bratislava (SKyEurope is one I company know of that flies across EU with starting prices from 29 Euro, there are probably others too) and from there to Vienna trains cost only 5 euro, and Bus 10 Euro. And you get here in a matter of hours.

can i get a prepaid sim card for my mobile phone in austria and europe?

can i get a prepaid sim card for my mobile phone in austria and europe?

From Bregenz there only is a ferry to Germany. The stations where you can disembark are Lindau, Bad Schachen, Wasserburg, Nonnenhorn, Kressbronn, Langenargen, Friedrichshafen, Immenstadt, Hagnau, Mainau and Konstanz.

There is no ferry from Bregenz to Switzerland.

In winter there is no regular ferry at all.

Calling people who've been to Vienna: help?

The infrastructure in that area isn′t that great, so the people are still living mostly from Agriculture and Woods.

In the woods, you can search for mushrooms, blueberries, cranberries,.

  • does austria grant dual citizenship?

    does austria grant dual citizenship?

Calling people who've been to Vienna: help?
